Mamelodi Sundowns has confirmed that Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena have been named as joint head coaches.
The club has indeed taken the anticipated path of raising Mngqithi and Mokwena to lead the team into the new season, contrary to indications from our latest sources earlier today
An official statement was released by Sundowns claiming that ‘Manqoba Mngqithi ‘s view prevails when there is no agreement’ between the two coaches.
“Manqoba and Rhulani have been with Mamelodi Sundowns for several years and were part of the technical team that was crowned champions of Africa in 2016 and also won the Premier Soccer League and other South African titles,” Club President Patrice Motsepe said in a statement.
In particular, the Mamelodi Sundowns board was keen to name South African coaches and express its devotion and trust in the talent and abilities of our local coaches.
Manqoba, Rhulani and the Sundowns Technical Team will concentrate on defending the PSL and the other titles we won during our historic 50th anniversary.
“They will also step forward and continue the aim we mentioned in 2004, which is to make Mamelodi Sundowns one of the best clubs on the continent of Africa.”
The Brazilians have suggested that, in due course, more substantial club announcements would be made.
More good news for the Yellow Nation follows the announcement of the new coaches from Sundowns after it was officially confirmed that Kermit Erasmus will join the club next season from Cape Town City.
